Taylor Court, Old Milltown Road, Belvoir Park - Fence repairs - 15 April 2009

Having heard and seen on too many times to count reports in relation to the mindless vandalism to fencing that surrounds Taylor Court sheltered dwelling complex on the Old Milltown Road, Belvoir Park.  BAMAG members decided to try and firstly determine exactly who was responsible for the premises and grounds and attempt if we could, to try and assist the home with repairing the fencing that has become an eyesore so as to not only make it more aesthetically pleasing to the residents.

Also the vast amount of people who regularly pass by on the Milltown Road on their daily commute.  After getting permission to carry out the replacement of fencing and repairs and having negotiated a generous discount from Carryduff Building Supplies BAMAG members purchased from our community fund 12 lengths of D rail fencing, some new fencing posts, screws, nails and some tools and set to start work on Thursday 16th April 2009.

We would like to thank all those within our community who continue to support our group and regularly give through the donation boxes dispersed throughout the area that pay for such invaluable services. We sincerely hope that the management, staff and residents appreciate and get some pleasure from our work. As part of the ongoing process of involving local children in such projects we hope to be able to get the wood stain and helpers to paint the fencing surroundng the premises before the summer is past. Below are some of the pics taken during the repairs:-

Taylor Court fence painting - 19th August 2009

In a joint venture between BAMAG and K.A.D Community group from Carryduff we organised a fence painting day at Taylor Court, our local sheltered dwelling facility on the Old Milltown Road, Belvoir Park. The fencing that surrounds the premises had over the last few years suffered badly at the hands of not only vandals but also had fallen foul of our weather which had left the fencing broken, damaged and missing in places and in very much need of a facelift so as not only make it more aesthetically pleasing to the residents but also the huge plethora of traffic that passes by each day.

Having already repaired and replaced damaged and missing fencing earlier this year (see article above) our volunteers recruited kids from Belvoir, Four Winds and Carryduff and we set to work attempting to gather the paint and equipment to give the fence that well deserved facelift. NIHE kindly donated enough paint, brushes and suitable protective equipment to complete the task and with our army of volunteers on Wednesday 19th August we are glad to say the task was completed, much to the delight and satisfaction of ourselves, residents, staff and management of Taylor Court.

The work at Taylor Court is only one of a number of projects being ran in conjunction with our community and with the assistance of local children. We believe that if local children are encouraged to play an active part in community affairs then they are more likely to take pride in it and deter others from destroying it.

If anyone wants to volunteer to assist with any of these projects and/or has need of, or details of anyone who may need such assistance then then can contact us at the community house, details below.

We cannot forget to thank the individuals and statutory bodies that provide unswerving assistance to our groups and without which these things would not be possible, and of course our volunteers and most important of all our children, thank you all.
