WHO ARE WE?
We are a like minded group of people either living within or having close connection by family or
business within the specified areas, i.e Belvoir and/or Milltown.
WHEN WERE WE FORMED?
Formed and held our first public meeting in Milltown Orange hall on 2nd Oct 2006 at 7.00pm, where our
first committee was elected.
WHY WERE WE FORMED?
In direct response to the growing and unacceptable increasing trend in anti-social behaviour, under
age drinking and drug concerns in our areas and their implications and the distinct lack or willingness of other similar groups to address some concerns or some sections of our community.
WHAT IS OUR AIM?
The aim of the group shall be to provide support and assistance for the inhabitants and residents of the aforementioned areas and its environs of Belfast without distinction of age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnic identity, political or religious opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, community and voluntary organisations and the inhabitants in a common effort to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for all the said inhabitants.
OUR OBJECTIVES
• Improve the lives of the people resident in the aforementioned areas.
• To support and provide input to housing and the redevelopment of the aforementioned areas.
• To lobby on behalf of the local community to secure designated play areas, a traditional bonfire site and green spaces for the elderly, youth, and residents of the area and to support other groups in the area with the same aim.
• To support the development of shops and retail premises that will enhance and improve the lives of the local community.
• To work with other groups in the area to support youth and community initiatives and to take the lead in local events for the youth, elderly and the community organised by the Belvoir And Milltown Action Group (BAMAG).
• To work with the local community in helping to organise local festivities around holiday periods for all to enjoy.
• To offer a secure environment in which our elderly citizens can feel safe, and work on behalf of these people by: exploring means to run a neighbourhood watch scheme, securing homes, lobby government departments and other groups to improve street lighting for the citizens of the area, to source out the possibility of assistance for those who may be housebound and those without family support.
• To run workshops in order to raise awareness within the local community regarding anti-social behaviour and bullying. These workshops aim to provide confidential help, support and advice with special emphasis on the youth.
• To support other organisations to ensure that primary and secondary school education will be a vital element in the regeneration and redevelopment, of the aforementioned areas.
• To concentrate on training schemes that will enhance personal development for the people of the aforementioned areas.
• To ensure that all people in the area have a right to decent housing, education, health and welfare and to improve the living conditions.
• To promote the power of wellbeing and community safety.
Below is the original flyer that the then Community Association, now BAMAG
disributed and publicised around our areas in 2006. Whilst the ideals and
details on the flyer are still very much our priorites, some names have
changed. BAMAG continues to support our original goals and would like to
reiterate our comittment to supporting the PSNI. We will continue to
recommend the Police to any residents wishing to report unlawful acts in our
community. Constable Jonathan Dunne, our duly appointed Community beat
officer can be contacted through PSNI Castlereagh and can be found most
Monday mornings at the Community House, and should anyone require to
speak with him privately we will facilitate such.
